CWR41 Posted 26 May 2010, 3:26am post #8 of 15 If you're worried that your daughter's BD cake will be stale before you eat it, it won't... not as long as the cake is covered with buttercream/fondant--the air can't get to the cake to dry it out. It will grow mold before it goes stale, and that usually takes two weeks.

Transfer the cake to a cake carrier and keep the cake at room temperature until you need it. The cake should be used within 2 to 3 days. If you used a thin layer of buttercream or glaze under the fondant, you can still store the cake at room temperature. If you don't have a cake carrier, cover the wrapped cake with a large overturned bowl.
